spring on the farm

dear friends,

(i wrote this last week, but then forgot to post it. oops!)
it is a lovely morning during a lovely spring.
There is so much going on at the farm right now!

HARVEST TRAINING AND CSA: next week we will begin training our harvest
crews on Tuesday and Friday mornings and we will be ready to start our
full CSA and donation deliveries on the week of May 23. If anyone
would like to join in these trainings, please let me know. We learn
all the jobs of the harvest, and harvest a few crops for the workers
to take home. If you do this training, you would become an extra
skilled helper, ready to help with a harvest morning anytime during
the season. You would also get to take home asparagus, rhubarb, and
other treats.

FARMERS' MARKET:
the Mustard Seed Farm is going to be at the ames downtown saturday
market for 6 weeks, starting May 20th. we will be selling prairie
plants, crafts, and a few vegetables, and doing some education. we
will only be selling vegetables of which we have a surplus that is
bigger than the demand at our donation sites - probably greens. Come
visit us, hang out with us, tell your friends, and maybe buy some
native plants. it should be lots of fun!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
right now we are planting, taking care of young plants, preparing to
plant, and planting some more. you will get to take home food with
you and perhaps some plants or seeds for your own garden.

TODAY! if this beautiful weather is inspiring you - come out this
afternoon between 1 and 4pm.
SAT. MAY 13 - 1-4pm
SUN MAY 21 - 1-4pm

EVENTS:
we are working on a schedule of events and classes. the details will
be coming soon.

THINGS WE NEED:
Skilled carpenters.
single mattress, sleeping pads, or cots for our new interns coming in 2 weeks.

thank you all,
alice mcgary
