PFI FIELD DAY JUNE 30TH, 3-5PM, and other events

Practical Farmers of Iowa Field Day: This free, educational event is scheduled for Sunday, June 30 from 3-5 PM on the farm.

Our theme is "Agriculture Supporting Community" and we will have leaders from our farm talking about community and cooperation through the lens of on-farm research, shared leadership, our volunteer model and community partners, growing flowers, seed saving, and more! Come learn, eat some delicious ice cream and local berries, and make some new friends!

2024 PRAIRIE PLANT INVENTORY

Farmers' Market and prairie plants - Saturday May 11

First market this Saturday!!! We will have plants for sale at the Ames Farmers Market this Saturday from 8-12! Come get your veggie starts, prairie seedlings, and maybe a fun craft item or two! You can also get a copy of our summer events schedule, learn about volunteer opportunities, and more.

So Many Exciting Events!

We have a whole assortment of summer events planned, and they will be starting as early as next week. Here is a photo of our current events schedule, which we will keep adding to throughout the summer. Our Farm Calendar

 THERE'S SO MUCH HAPPENING ON THE FARM!
(super dense post, with some editing and pictures coming soon!!)

The plants are popping, the frogs are peeping, the birds are singing, and there's just SO MUCH work to do!!  Work is in full swing here on the farm; we started direct seeding on Easter weekend with potatoes, spinach, beets, peas, and lettuce. The greenhouse is filling up with seedlings, and some will soon be transplanted into the fields. Spring work is so exciting, and we hope you'll join us for some!

March 23 - Seed Starting Workshop & Seed Library Launch!

Celebrate the opening of the Ames Seed Library on the Library's second floor near the Adult Services desk!
The Ames Seed Library is a community resource that offers free vegetable, flower, fruit, and herb seeds in order to empower people to grow their own food and build relationships through gardening.

Drop in to learn about the Ames Seed Library, browse the selection available, and take home seeds. If you have seeds at home that you're not using, please bring them along to donate to the Ames Seed Library!
