here are some extra notes about the veggies and the farm this week. 

in your box:FOR SURE: spinach, lettuce, radish,
 MAYBE: kohlrabi, kale, boc choy, dill, snap peas (edible pod), chives, and garlic scapes.  honeyberries???
The GARLIC SCAPES aren't pictured in your newsletter.  They are the flower stalk of the garlic plant, which we remove to encourage the plant to grow a bigger bulb.  Cut off the flower/pointy end, and the rest of the stalk can be eaten.  You can use it kind of like garlic or a green onion, but it is not as tender - Chop it up fine and cook it a little more thoroughly.  More info on the Recipes and Extraordinary Vegetables tab.

You will also start getting BERRIES soon.  We have a lot of different kinds, but smaller yields of each kind.  So when we have berries, we try to make sure everyone gets some - so you might get a small portion of one of the following: honeyberries, juneberries, gooseberries, currants, sour cherries, and later - black and red raspberries and blueberries, or you might not get some one week, but not the next.   hopefully over a number of weeks, you will get a chance to try different berries.  We might not have any strawberries at all this year!  check out more info on the website link above.  We will sometimes have BERRY PICKING opportunities on Sundays, if you would like larger quantities.

SPINACH - this might be your last week of spinach!  We are having a harder time finding and picking  beautiful leaves.  We had some heavy hail last week that caused a lot of leaf damage, and it's getting hotter, so our spinach is starting to bolt.  If you want to come out to the farm and pick yourself huge amounts of spinach before we take it out to plant the next crop- let us know soon!!
