Hello again, here's another update about what's happening at the farm: farm news, vegetable offers, and information on our next few Friday night potlucks. No pictures, cause i still can't find the cord that connects my camera to a computer.

Update
Not much new since the last newsletter. We have planted a good amount of sweet potatoes, corn, tomatoes, and buckwheat, all of which should be a nice source of food later in the season, or in the case of the buckwheat, a nice source of weed suppression now. We've also started harvesting some more three-dimensional vegetables: garlic scapes, kohlrabi, and this week, cabbage and broccoli. Our small fruit plantings that we started last year have also started giving us a bit of a harvest. All the people working on the farm have been happily eating strawberries for a couple weeks, and the raspberries are just starting to produce too! Soon we might even have our first harvest of honey.

Food Needed?
We have lots and lots of lettuce and leafy greens (kale, chard) right now that we need to get rid of. Do you need either of these, or do you know of anybody or any organization that could use some free lettuce or greens? Let us know soon, call Alice at 515-460-1467.

This will be led by Molly, a friend of Alice's. She'll be talking about the importance of pure motivation in developing a good heart and a peaceful world: Practices from the Mahayama Buddhist tradition.

unfortunately, we will not be hosting a potluck on June 25. We will be continuing the next week though:

Health and Healthcare
Friday, July 2, 2010, potluck dinner at 6PM, discussion at 7PM. At the Mustard Seed Community Farm (366 W Ave, Ames, IA, 50014).
Led by Colette Vander Plas Hall. She will be talking about the personal and sociopolitical issues surrounding healthcare: People's perception of, access to, and relationship with the healthcare system.

Water and Geology
Friday, July 9, 2010, potluck dinner at 6PM, discussion at 7PM. At the Mustard Seed Community Farm (366 W Ave, Ames, IA, 50014).
Led by Mary Tiedeman. She could focus on any number of things surrounding the water and rocks in Iowa and the world, all of which will be interesting!
