Update
The year is going pretty well, we've just started harvesting beets, green beans, potatoes, and carrots, and our tomatoes, eggplant, and okra will start producing soon. We're working to make sure all of the food is fairly divided, and are trying to grow enough for all the people that need it. Part of growing this food is people working on the farm. Two visiting workers that have really helped this summer are Rafa Martinez and Steph Plant, two visitng workers that have hopefully learned a lot and have been able to help us a great deal. Stephanie will be leaving soon, and we will miss her. Before she leaves, we're having some events: Stephanie will lead a talk on art therapy on Friday, and then be involved in a concert on saturday (see below). Come if you can, both should be fun.

after that a good portion of our farm will be gone for the midwest catholic worker retreat
then the sweet potato party, then it's too dark at night for more activities at the farm, and we'll need to switch to a winter schedule.

Other Events

Farm Concert
Saturday, July 17, 2010
at Mustard Seed Community Farm (366 W Ave, Ames IA, 50010)
Concert from 4 to 5 PM, featuring Stepahanie Plant, members of the PorchStompers, and a few other bands.
Potluck at 5:30, followed by a jam session involving the people who were in the previous concert.

Practical Farmers of Iowa Field Day
July 31st, from 9AM to 1 PM
Starting at the Student Organic Farm (55519 170th St, Ames), ending at Mustard Seed Community Farm (366 W Ave, Ames IA, 50010) with a lunch provided, the field day will focus on community-to-agriculture links and cover crops in vegetable plots.
