Update
Here's what Nicholas sent out to the list, and i pretty much copied it word for word.
The weather has been pretty good, we've had a lot of rain, but no really strong storms, and our farm is pretty well set up to combat erosion, with contour beds and cover crops, for when a severe storm does hit us. We've got almost all of our seedlings put in, our perrenials are starting to leaf out, and we've had enough workers that the weeds are only taking over in small areas of the farm (there are sections we need to till to plant seeds in, but the rains have been preventing that, hopefully we get an opportunity soon. We've started our CSA deliveries, and are now on our third or fourth week for the year. Our last box, if I remember correctly, contained turnips, broccoli, lettuce, spinach, kale, mustard greens, chard, radishes, garlic scapes, and some kind of herb. We've had a lot of volunteers out to help harvest, as well as deliver significant amounts of produce to the Community Meal and Emergency Residence program in Ames, a rehab shelter in Boone, the Story City Food Bank, and probably some other places.
Events
Yoga will be happenning this saturday, June 20th at the farm. It will be an hour-long class, starting at 8 AM, and is open to people of all skill/flexibility/etc levels. Saturday yoga classes will probably continue throughout the summer, though, it will likely not be all saturdays, so check our calender for when it will happen-http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=mustardseedbee%40gmail.com&ctz=...
Community Dinner We'll be having an open dinner out at the farm, consisting of a potluck at 6 PM (we usually have plenty of food and feel free to come even if you've not prepared anything), followed by an non-demoninational, spiritually themed discussion at 7.
Desires
Workers We've had a good number of volunteers, but we could always use more, especially as the summer progresses, and some of our volunteers are going to be busy getting married, writing a thesis, moving to a different farm, or leaving the country, so workers will really be our main need. Our big days when we will really want help are Tuesdays, from 8 to 3 and Fridays from 9-12, when we'll be doing the bulk of our harvesting. We also have open hours Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm, but itd be a good idea to check the calender-
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=mustardseedbee%40gmail.com&ctz=... and call the person doing the open hours before you come- sunday, monday, call nicholas (515-520-9691) tuesday, wednesday, Friday, call Alice (515-460-1467) Saturdays, call Chris (641-780-5446).
Transportation First, we're looking for a car to buy/have given to us to deliver our CSA boxes. Also, we're looking for people that could deliver food from our farms to food shelves, community meals, etc, in the area. Specifically, if you know anyone in Story City that could deliver food to the Story City Loaves and Fishes on saturdays, let us know. Finally, we have people that want to help on our farm, but need a ride and/or would prefer to carpool. I'll be the volunteer coordinator for the farm for the next two months, so if you're planning on driving out to the farm regularly, and could give people a ride, let me know, at 515-520-9691, or at nleete@gmail.com
Website We have a website http://mustardseedfarm.org/ not sure if i put that on the last newsletter. it even has a blog! not updated that often.
