Fireflies and summer storms

Now it is definitely summer. Spring lasted a long time and we had an endless supply of spinach and lettuce, but now we have summer clouds, summer storms, and fireflies. Martin was out the other night taking pictures of the fireflies (there should be a few more at the end of his photo album) before taking off on another cross country trip. We'll be glad to see him when he gets back. (Some of his other pictures show off the bugs better, but this one shows off the farm.)

I would like to say that our weather has been pretty intense. Today is the one of 2 days in the past 2 weeks that we haven't had rain. At first, it was just a bit inconvenient because it's hard to work when it's so soggy, but now some of the crops are starting to get seriously stressed. We have been lucky to miss any hail, but there have been some exciting winds. I took a lot of pictures of our plants at 45degree angles after a storm, but i've momentarily lost the cord that lets the camera talk to the computer. The lettuce is starting to rot, and some varieties of peas are getting sick. The weeds are taking full advantage of this time; they must know that we can't use a hoe, and I swear they are growing a foot every time i turn my back. Despite the inconveniences, the storms are glorious, and I could watch the sky all day. I'm guessing it can't rain forever and i'm just praying for a dry day tomorrow. Maybe I'll get back ahead of those weeds.
