it's been a wild and difficult and sometimes surreal year so far.
While most of the regular garden work is done for the season, we are taking advantage of some nice weather this week to do a few end of season things, including digging the last carrots and cleaning the last garlic. We are looking for some helpers this Tuesday, election day. if you would like some concrete work to distract you from your worries about the state of the nation - come on out to the farm!
quick summary of the year:
on the farm, we are winding up an intense 7 months of planting, tending, and harvesting food crops, producing 20+ weeks of bountiful harvests to share with workers, members, food pantries, the farm to clinic program, and many friends new and old who were struggling this year.
we experienced the driest year in Iowa in 140 years, and the most destructive storm in living memory. Farming during climate change can be stressful and discouraging, but we still produced a lot of good food and keep learning ways to be more resilient.
We had an amazing and fun crew of workers who were careful and diligent about covid safety and as far as we know, nobody got infected on the farm.
due to covid, we hosted no social events - and we missed seeing many of you!
We are trying to be creative about how to stay more connected through the winter months, while we need to be extra careful about covid, and are dreaming about a more social future.
