Dear Friends,

For this Giving Tuesday, if you are looking for a way to give back to your community, consider a donation to Mustard Seed Community Farm. Your support will help us repair and renovate our corn-crib, and to continue to share good food with those in need and our work to build a more just and equitable society.

As you may know, over the past few years we have been fixing up or replacing the old farm buildings here. Now it’s definitely time to work on our corn-crib - the big white “barn” in the middle of the farm that is essential to so much of our operation. The siding has deteriorated so much that water has damaged windows, doors, tools, and supplies. Our plan is to replace some doors and windows, put up new metal siding, and add a staircase to make upstairs access much safer and easier. We are so excited and grateful to have received a Story County Community Foundation, in cooperation with Practical Farmers of Iowa, for $6,000 to help with this project, but we still need to raise $15,000 to complete these repairs.

We usually do most of our year’s fundraising during our one spring event, but because of the pandemic we are trying to creatively use technology. Here are some things that we are trying for the first time!!!**

While Mustard Seed Farm’s mission is service and we do not make a profit, we are not a 501c3, so gifts are not tax deductible, but much appreciated.

If you aren’t very familiar with the work we do, here’s some more info about how we share food:

Mustard Seed Community Farm has a mission of providing nutritious food for those in the community who need it. MCSF relies entirely on the labor of volunteers, and donates approximately 75% of the food it produces. We do this with the help of many partner organizations including: Food at First, Bethesda Lutheran Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Mid-Iowa Community Action, Primary Health Care Farm-to-Clinic program, and Harvest Vineyard Church. Mustard Seed also directly delivers free boxes of fresh vegetables to people in need, such as some families struggling with medical needs, unemployment, and immigrant families who have suffered during the pandemic.
