Tiffanie says, “As for the topics, I am planning to address and ask questions about both the social (equity, resilience, affordability) and the environmental (climate change, water, and energy) aspects of the US food system across scales (national to local).”
Bio: Tiffanie Stone is a PhD student in the Environmental Science program at Iowa State University. Her research interests include sustainable urban food systems, food justice, agroecology, and the influence of policy on the environment. She is developing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models of the Des Moines Metropolitan food system to measure energy, water, and carbon emitted currently and in a local food scenario. She is also conducting research about equity and resilience in the local food system. Her background includes an undergraduate degree in Applied Plant Science and a master’s degree in Agroecology. Prior to this project she worked as a Norwegian Peace Corps volunteer at an Agricultural Training Institute in Zanzibar, and as a County Extension Director for Purdue University in agriculture, natural resources, and 4-H youth development.
