A note about MELONS, and this weeks box

This week's newsletter made by Frances

Just some quick note about MELONS:This past week, our WATERMELONS, and CANTALOUPES just started to ripen.  We hope we will have enough for you all to get one of each, and potentially more after that.  However, just like our cucumbers, these plants are very popular with insect pests, so a long melon season can not be guaranteed.
MELON STORAGE - I would recommend keeping these both on the counter (up to 4 days) and then to refrigerate after cutting them, or if you aren't able to eat them quickly.
WATERMELONS - We are trying to pick your watermelon when it is perfectly ripe and ready for eating, because they do not ripen after picking.  It is tricky to know when your melon is absolutely perfect without eating it ourselves, (because we have a huge diversity of melon varieties - colors, sizes...) so please tell us if your melon is not ripe and delicious, or if it is Great!!  This information is incredibly useful to us.  And we will try to give you a replacement watermelon the following week.
CANTALOUPE - Cantaloupes do continue to ripen picking, so check this melon for ripeness before cutting into it.  Take a sniff at the spot where the stem was attached.  it should smell strongly of cantaloupe.  If it's not ready, leave it on the counter for a couple of days.
ODDS AND ENDS: Again, your tomatoes will be a mix of ripe and soon to be ripe.  Your hot peppers will be in a bag with something else, while your sweet peppers will be loose.
