2018 Summer Interns: Rachel, Alice, and Derek!

Introducing three of our 2018 summer interns (one more still to come!), Rachel Eber, Alice Foster, and Derek Seil! They have been with us for a couple of weeks now and will be gracing the farm with their presences until the beginning of August. They have already proven to be beautiful additions to our farm community! Come out to one of our harvest days or workdays to get to know them! Here are their fun answers to my questions:

Rachel Eber

1. What vegetable are you and why?
R: sweet potato because I'm grounded and sweet
2. Favorite color?
R: yellow
3. What brings you joy?
R: the smell of wood smoke on a cold evening. also going on long walks on summer nights, playing music with my friends and eating cottage cheese
4. What breaks your heart?
R: when animals in children's books are mean to each other
5. Why are you interested in the world of small farming/growing food?
R: i think the food system is really wack and i think growing my own food and helping to feed people with it is the best thing i can personally do to fix it
6. What's something you like to do in your spare time?
R: write songs
7. What are you excited about growing in the ground this year?
R: beets

Alice Foster

1. What vegetable are you and why?
A: I am peas because I am silly.
2. Favorite color?
A: My favorite color is blue but I am a fan of all colors.
3. What brings you joy?
A: Swimming in the ocean, lakes, and rivers.
4. What breaks your heart?
A: When people are mean to each other.
5. Why are you interested in the world of small farming/growing food?
A: I love being outside and around plants, and I worked on a farm in the Boston area for two summers where I learned a lot about injustice in the food system.
6. What's something you like to do in your spare time?
A: I love to read, play guitar, and draw.
7. What are you excited about growing in the ground this year?
A: I am super excited for everything.

Derek Seil

1. What vegetable are you and why?
D: A tomato because it’s nice to-meet you. (Even though it’s technically a fruit)
2. Favorite color?
D: Blue, because it’s the color of the sky, water and my eyes.
3. What brings you joy?
D: What brings me joy is sitting back after a day of work and realizing I learned something.
4. What breaks your heart?
D: Losing friends/family.
5. Why are you interested in the world of small farming/growing food?
D: Because we take food for granted around here, and I think that the more people know about farming and growing food, the knowledge we have in general to help those in need.
6. What's something you like to do in your spare time?
D: I like to work on my project car in my spare time.
7. What are you excited about growing in the ground this year?
D: I am excited just to learn what all we can grow and all the details that go into it!
