Mustard Seed Farm Receives Story County Foundation Grant

A BIG THANK YOU to
the Story County Community Foundation !!!
and Practical Farmers of Iowa!!!!

Have you heard that Mustard Seed Community Farm has received a $6000 grant from the Story County Community Foundation this year? These funds will be used to support our corn crib rehabilitation project and will directly help us to increase the farm’s food and supply storage capacity via corn crib rehabilitation.
Many Story County residents do not have access to high-quality nutritious food. Mustard Seed Community Farm has a mission of providing nutritious food for those in the community who need it. MCSF relies entirely on the labor of volunteers, most of whom are Story County residents, and donates approximately 75% of the food it produces.
Through this grant, the corn crib will be renovated, providing critically needed storage space to store food, equipment, and supplies to prevent deterioration and prolong the life of both food and supplies. The additional storage will allow Mustard Seed to direct more resources and effort to provide free food to those in need in Story County.
This grant will increase Mustard Seed Community Farm’s ability to more effectively work towards our mission of providing access to nutritious food to as many community members as possible. This project will help increase the farm’s capacity to provide free fresh produce to several Story County organizations that distribute our food to those in need, including: Food at First, Bethesda Lutheran Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Mid-Iowa Community Action, Primary Health Care Farm-to-Clinic program, and Story City Food Pantry. Mustard Seed also directly delivers free boxes of fresh vegetables to people in need, such as some families who have parents with chronic medical conditions, and immigrant families who have suffered during the pandemic. In total, we estimate that this project will have an impact on over 500 people in Story County.
Mustard Seed is raising additional funds to complete full renovation, estimated to be $20,000. Contributions can be made by check to Mustard Seed Community Farm and mailed to 366 W Ave., Ames, IA 50014, Venmo @Mustard-Seed-Community-Farm, or www.patreon.com/mustardseedcommunityfarm.
