Local author Amie Adams wrote The Observer: The Life and Writings of Bernt Olaf Wolden in partnership with the Iowa Master Naturalists and Emmet County Conservation in Northwest Iowa. The book is part-biography, part-anthology, all tribute to Olaf Wolden, a 19th century Iowa naturalist.

From 1930-1968, he published a regular nature column in his local newspaper. Amie got permission from the newspaper to compile a selection of those articles into a book and wrote a short biography to accompany them. Olaf’s story is a special one because he explored and studied the land when Iowa was a much “wilder” place than the state we know today. Born in 1886, Olaf had the opportunity to interact with plants and animals we no longer see today (or have become incredibly rare). ?
Amie is donating all the
proceeds to Emmet County Conservation to further conservation and nature education in Mr. Wolden’s home area, so attending this event is a great way to support a good cause.
